…can only be experienced in an impeccable moment. The quality of each moment determines the quality of each life. Life is a chain of moments, with some behind us and some ahead of us, but only one with us. It serves us well to tend to this one fully.
Life happens now. If we aren’t present, our power, self-control, and free will are hijacked by outside forces and confused inner static. If we have checked out of the moment, with all the fun and/or miserable distractions that life has to offer, we are passive participants in our lives. Life happens to us, if we relinquish our autonomy.
Awareness is the practice of returning to each moment and opening to whatever is happening. We can explore it and see how we’re functioning. If we aren’t here and now, where and when are we? Are we making choices based on fear or inspiration?
If we have “checked out,” at least (and at most) we can examine what’s going on and be curious about that confusion. If we’re being held hostage by worry, regret, desire, dissatisfaction, or any ruling distraction, it is the perfect opportunity to untangle the knots that bind us. And when we can’t untangle the knots, we can observe our enslavement, knowing that observation alone is a powerful cure.
The more we practice occupying each moment, the more we gain control of the only thing we can: ourselves. We discover our confusion and clarify it. We connect with reality, and discover that it’s more comfortable, easy, and simple than we thought. It’s safe to play with our dreams, try our inspiration, take small risks, make more interesting choices, and (best of all) exert free will.
With awareness, each step is impeccable.
When fully attuned to the foot connecting with the ground, nothing is feared or wanted. Focused on the body weight shifting forward in space and the quiet beyond, nothing is needed. There is no opportunity for regrets of the past or worries of the future, when focused on real, happening life.
All is well, in this one and only complete and clean moment of experience.
